Taking On The Challenge!
During the last weekend we spent a few days camping on the Welsh coast near to Snowdonia National Park. We had fine weather on the morning of Sunday and so we decided to make our way to the summit of Mount Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa via the infamous Crib Goch route.
The Crib Goch route is not for the faint hearted. It is classed as a graded scramble in good weather and a serious mountaineering route in winter. People have died on this route! It’s a challenging and rewarding hike to the summit with some stunning views. A head for heights and a sure foot are definitely required.

Mount Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa (3560 ft / 1085 m)
|
The classic route of Crib Goch from East to West leads up from Penn-y-pass via the Pyg track to a “bad step” where hands and feet are both needed briefly. It is followed by ascent to the arête, before tackling three rock-pinnacles to a grassy col at Bwlch Coch. The route from the col rises again to the sister summit of Garnedd Ugain (1065m) before you finally reach the summit of Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa (1085m).
We started at Penn-y-pass and finished near the village of Nant Peris where we had parked the car.
Distance: 8.8 miles / 14 km | Height gain: 2911 ft / 887 m | Height loss: 3725 ft / 1135m.

Our route down follows the train tracks & the Llanberis track. Llanberis is in the distance next to Llyn Padarn.
