We found this ‘chain’ style post via ‘Jack & Jill Travel the World‘, (who had been tagged by Matthew from ‘Expert Vagabond‘), and it got us thinking about all the fantastic moments we have captured on camera whilst travelling the world…
The idea is to enjoy fellow traveller’s ‘7 super shots’ from their personal travel photo collection that fit the following categories, then tag 5 other travel bloggers to share theirs.
It has been fun looking back through our mammoth collection, but this has also made it difficult in choosing just one photograph to best fit each category.
Wayne tries to capture the grandeur of the Grand Canyon on camera!
Here goes… These are my choices. I hope you enjoy them!
1. Takes my breath away.
This shot, with me on the left-hand side, was taken after a long trek up to ‘Observation Point’ looking down the valley of Zion Canyon, USA. The amazing view was well worth the effort it took to get there and definitely took my breath away, as did being so close to the edge!
2. Makes me laugh/ smile.
Whilst on a 3 month backpacking trip through China we came across this display in a shop window in Leshan. The shop was selling luxury wedding outfits and those in the window are replicas of what Prince William and Kate Middleton wore for the Royal Wedding in April 2011. Being Brits, it made us smile that ‘Royal Wedding Fever’ had reached as far as China!
3. Makes me dream.
This was our own little piece of paradise off the island of Flores in Indonesia. We hired a local boat for the day to take us to one of the ’17 Islands’ of Riung, where we were amazed to find that we were the only visitors. Here, we lazed about in the sun, snorkelled amongst the coral, ate barbecued fish and dreamed of never leaving this picture perfect place. A dream come true!
4. Makes me think.
These beautiful girls were so happy to pose for a photo as we strolled through the one-street town of Moni on the island of Flores, Indonesia, our pit-stop before visiting the famous red and blue lakes at Kelimutu National Park. Looking at their bare feet and torn clothing, it makes me think how much of a lottery it is where you are born in the world. People with virtually nothing make the most of everything in life. I need to remember to appreciate the simple things more.
5. Makes my mouth water.
I love chillies. Spicy food is my menu of choice. These chillies were for sale at a market in Hue, Vietnam. Having sampled some of the ‘mouse-shit’ chillies in Thailand, these were making my mouth water!
6. Tells a story.
Behind these remains is the horrific story that lives on in the hearts and minds of all Cambodian people. Around a quarter of the 8 million population were massacred under Pol Pot’s dictatorship, which continues to impact on the country today. It is such a humbling experience visiting the Killing Fields and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh.
7. Most proud of… (aka National Geographic pic).
This night-time reflection shot of the front gate view to Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia is one of my all time favourites. It was our first attempt at using a gorilla pod type tripod with a simple point and shoot digital camera. The photograph was taken in August 2008. When we returned in 2011 with a much better camera and much improved technique, we were a little disappointed to find that this awesome structure is no longer lit up at night. The fact we couldn’t recreate and improve on the original shot means it is even more special to me.

Thanks for responding π
I love reading about other people's travel adventures & seeing their photographs.
Will look foward to viewing your selection.
(It's a difficult task choosing just 7!!!)
Not sure you will see this comment, but I have to make it.
The winner is ‘It takes my breathe away’. Mine too.
Angor Wat at night is also stunning, especially with a point and shoot.
Your words with each photo, add to their magic.
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment Helen! Glad you’re enjoying the older blog posts too π
