Danielle found this ‘chain’ style post via ‘Jack & Jill Travel the World‘, (who had been tagged by Matthew from ‘Expert Vagabond‘), and it got us thinking about all the fantastic moments we have captured on camera whilst travelling the world…
The idea is to enjoy fellow traveller’s ‘7 super shots’ from their personal travel photo collection that fit the following categories, then tag 5 other travel bloggers to share theirs.
Danielle has already posted her 7 photos and tagged other bloggers so here are my choices…..
1. Takes my breath away.
Sunset in El Nido, Philippines. One of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen. This was the first night of a week long stay in the quiet and amazing El Nido on the island of Palawan. If there is one place you must visit in the Philippines then make it this tropical paradise.
2. Makes me laugh / smile.
Here in the UK we’re used to dogs and cats as pets. In Thailand things can be a little different to say the least! Whenever I see this picture of two young children feeding corn to an elephant, I cannot help but smile.
3. Makes me dream.
When travelling, sometimes a place really grabs you and leaves a permanent influence. It was whilst we were in Yosemite National Park that I first read about the John Muir Trail (JMT). Since that time I have dreamed of being able to attempt the trail. The best bit about dreams is when you make them come true and next summer (2014) both of us will be heading back to Yosemite to walk the JMT!
4. Makes me think.
This is the Leshan Giant Buddha in Sichuan Province, China. I’m always amazed by the vision of humans that allows them to perceive that such monuments can not only be imagined but actually built. It’s places like this that make travelling such a wonderful experience.
5. Makes my mouth water.
Chinese food is amazing but our firm favourite when travelling around China was the dumplings. Everywhere we went we sought out the places to buy & eat them, maybe as a midday snack or a main meal in the evening, it didn’t matter. Dipped in a mix of soy sauce and chilli flakes they are a treat. This photo was taken on my 40th birthday in a small local restaurant in Kunming, Yunnan Province (just around the corner from the train station).
6. Tells a story.
I’m a bit of a science geek if truth be told! The Grand Canyon is a wonderful natural geology lesson for those willing to learn. It took about 6 million years for it to be carved out by the Colorado River, a mere moment in the history of the Earth, yet makes a human life span seem insignificant. Just a simple reminder to make your time on Earth count as we’re only about for the briefest period.
7. Most proud of… (aka National Geographic pic).
This is one of my favourite images. This is the Yellowstone River Lower Falls in the spectacular Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. This is a HDR image that I created from three exposures. Everything seemed to go right, from the aperture selection, focal point and processing, which resulted in the final image shown here, which I’m very proud of.
