Colour Speaks Volumes…
Due to unprecedented popularity last year, Travel Supermarket have once again launched their photo blogging challenge – A ‘Capture The Colour’ Photo Competition whereby travellers are invited to publish a blog post showcasing five of their own favourite travel photographs which best capture the colour of five categories: red, blue, green, yellow and white.
Boost Your Travel Fund!
Photograph entries will be judged by a panel of 5 leading travel and photography experts. Once the competition closes on October 9th, there will be one winner selected for each colour category, and then an overall winner will be chosen.
Winners get to pick from a number of awesome prizes and the overall winner will receive £3,000 towards their future travel fund – so definitely worth entering!
With £3,000 up for grabs, we set about looking through our travel pics collection to find images where the colour speaks volumes.
These are our 5 entries:
Red
After a week of heavy monsoon rain, this gorgeous, rich red sunset was captured at Sokha Beach in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Thinking we wouldn’t get any time on the beach at all before returning home, we savoured every moment of this amazing sky on our final night. It just proves that the best things come when you least expect it!
Blue
This shot of an outrigger boat was taken at Honda Bay off the island of Palawan, in the Philippines. The Philippines is one of our favourite destinations with it’s beautiful beaches and warm friendly people. Exploring the many different islands was a highlight for us, and this shot encapsulates the serenity and pristine waters we found during lazy days snorkelling and sunbathing with only our captain for company. It makes us want to dive straight in and go for a swim!
Green
This photograph of Zhonglu Village was taken on a visit to the rice terraces at Longji, in China’s Guangxi Province. It encapsulates all that we love about wild China, the lush green countryside, traditional houses nestled between valleys, people working the land as if it were 100 years ago. It is incredible how hard they work to feed their families, but what a view to wake up to every day. Give us the Chinese countryside over a Chinese city any day!
Yellow
This photograph was taken at Wat Pho in Bangkok, Thailand. Yellows and golds adorn the building with it’s intricate carvings and ornamental features. There are many statues of Buddha to be found across the whole country that are either wrapped in yellow silk or have the yellow cassia fistula flower placed alongside. Yellow represents Buddhism and the bright yellow cassia fistula flower is a national symbol of Thailand. Not only is yellow considered auspicious, bringing good luck, yellow has further importance as it is considered the royal colour – and the colour of Monday, which is the king’s birthday. Thailand is an amazing place we hold dear to our hearts – so what better choice could we have for ‘yellow’!
White
For white, we photographed these Tibetan chortens whilst hiking through the Changping Valley in Rilong, a little-known village in China’s western Sichuan region. At that time back in August 2011, China was restricting tourists from travelling any further west so we were really happy to capture such a notable symbol on our hike as it was the closest to Tibet we were going to get. The low white clouds coming into the valley show how high we were at over 4000 metres above sea level and add to the drama of the picture. A great memory of a wonderful place.
The second part of the contest is to nominate 5 other bloggers to enter. Here are our nominations:

Fantastic shots. We've been struggling over our own choices for what seems like forever. Thanks for the inspiration to get our Capture the Color entry posted.
It's really difficult to choose! Seeing some other people's entries, I wish we'd have thought out of the box a bit more as we have some typical shots e.g. sunset, sea. I love looking at everyone's choices, can't wait to see what you decide on 🙂
Love the green photo! Stunning countryside, but also you did it more than justice with your photography. Here's my entry: http://wp.me/p2l4j8-JD Great to enter with so many talented people! http://ohtheplaceswesee.com
Thanks for taking the time to look through our entries & comment! Just looked at your entries – I also like your choice for green. I think your red picture is the most eye-catching though, great shot. Good luck 🙂
